Puzzle No1 - Late for a Date

Here at Design for Need we love problem solving. Can you solve this week's puzzle - Late for a Date?

8th September 2017  - Design for Need, Puzzle

By Matt McClumpha

Welcome to Design for Need’s first official puzzle segment. You might be asking yourself “why is a social design company now making puzzles?”. Well, we believe it is always important to keep the mind active and thinking of new possibilities, and what better way than through problem solving. This week you are late for an important date, so better get a move on. Good luck!

The Problem

Hint 1 - You might be under the impression the map is currently facing north, however this may not be the case.

Hint 2 - The Trendy Coffee Shop is due south and north of two water fountains, therefore you should be able to draw a straight line between the two water fountains that will pass through the same Trendy Coffee Shop.

Hint 3 - There’s a bit of a ‘twist’ to solving this puzzle. Try turning the map 45 degrees at a time to find the correct orientation that works.

The Solution

The correct meeting point was Trendy Coffee Shop B. You may be used to looking at a map in a certain way, however by changing your perspective it becomes clear that coffee shop B is the only one that fit all the requirements. It’s important to consider this for design work as well, sometimes is easy to use the same approach when solving a problem, however by gaining a fresh perspective; new, innovative solutions can be created.
